about the game

pentago was invented in Sweden by Tomas Flodén in 2003, and was launched in late 2004 by Mindtwister AB, a Swedish company set up to publish and market the game.

The game was a big hit in Sweden - winning the prestigious "Game of the Year" award in 2005.

The game itself is a fast and fun board game, as easy as it is sophisticated. The first player to get five in a row wins, but winning is harder than you think. Every time you place a marble you also turn one of the game's four blocks.

Pentago is easy to learn, but as hard to win as your opponent is skilled. Place a marble, turn a block and hope that your opponent hasn't figured out your strategy.

The Pentago Oak box

The game currently comes in two versions - PENTAGO Oak - this is a classic design with a solid oak playing board and solid oak game blocks in an anodised aluminium frame. The game is played with black and white glass marbles.

The Pentago Birch box

PENTAGO Birch - this is a more modern 'Scandinavian' design in solid birch with the playing board painted black. The frame is also in anodised aluminium, with glass marbles in two velvet bags.

The Pentago XL board

A four player version - PENTAGO XL - will be available in 2007. This has nine playing blocks and marbles in Red, Green, Blue and Yellow. The aim of the game is exactly the same, place a marble, turn a board and try to make five in a row!
